Our client has established a reputation for being a key wholesale distributor of aftermarket parts to dealers throughout Canada; ensuring farmers have access to the parts they need, when they need it! To ensure their continued success, they seek someone to assume responsibility for the strategic procurement of the organization's goods and services as they prepare for international expansion!

Reporting to the General Manager, you will work with your team and department managers to maintain the appropriate level of inventory based on your expert knowledge. You will purchase wholegoods and services that meet/exceed quality requirements and specifications at costs that are favourable for ongoing profitability. Your relationship building skills with key suppliers (existing and new) will be strategic for long term success.

Key Responsibilities include

  • Be a positive people manager of four direct reports (buyers and expediter)
  • Establish and implement purchasing policies, procedures, and best practices; monitoring compliance thereof
  • Identify and source new suppliers based on price, terms, quality, support, capacity, and reliability; establish and update an approved supplier database
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers
  • Develop, negotiate, and administer purchasing agreements and contracts with suppliers that support organizational requirements
  • Measure and manage supplier cost, quality, and delivery performance; troubleshooting and managing risk/issues that raise concerns
  • Introduce supplier performance improvement measures
  • Maintaining inventory requirements for relevant departments
  • Facilitate timely placement of purchase orders
  • Develop and manage purchasing budget and forecasts; reporting regularly
  • Oversee the operation and daily activities of the purchasing department; motivating, developing, and overseeing staff
  • Direct continuous improvement initiatives

To Be Considered for this Key Role, you offer:

  • Post-secondary education in Business, Finance, Engineering, or Supply Chain Management
  • 10+ years' progressive experience in a parts distribution role combined with proven success in a supervisory, management or leadership role
  • 10 years experience managing multiple warehouses including people management (warehouse staff and regional supervisors)
  • A whole-goods purchasing background; finished product distribution is mandatory
  • Certified Professional Purchaser (C.P.P) designation or current registration with the Purchasing Management Association of Canada an asset
  • Comprehensive experience drafting supplier agreements; able to strategically assess and mitigate risk through well-structured agreements
  • Background in agriculture is highly preferred.
  • Strong negotiation skills combined with the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers between orders
  • Experience with budgeting, controls, inventory control, turns, obsolescence, new product sourcing/offshoring, vendor/supplier management
  • Excellent customer service skills supported by strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with purchasing software, Microsoft Word and Excel; computer literacy required
  • Detail-oriented manner with the ability to work with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion
