Ingenium - Canada's Museums of Science and Innovation is currently seeking a dynamic individual to fill the position of: 
HERDSPERSON, CANADA AGRICULTURE AND FOOD MUSEUM (casual employment)

Salary Range: $25.17 - $30.62 per hour
Level:4

Summary of Duties: 
Reporting to the Supervisor, Farm Operations, the incumbent provides all animal husbandry, health, environmental and operational requirements for all dairy and livestock herds; Performs milking, calculates and administrates medication, detects potential cows in heat and performs artificial insemination (an asset), knowledge of Dairy Comp program, cleans, grooms and clips animals, assists with trimming of hooves and horns, detects health issues for all animals; maintains and operates farm machinery; maintains and secures the barns to ensure that the site is properly displayed in optimal conditions for the public and performs other duties. 

Education and Experience: 
As an ideal candidate, you hold a High School diploma CSD or recognized diploma in agriculture (an asset). 
You also have experience in the following areas: 
- five (5) years experience in animal husbandry; 
- valid driver's permit; 
- experience driving farm equipment. 

RATED REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge: 
- animal husbandry practices, diseases and treatments; 
- milking operation; 
- modern farm practices; 
- implementation of protocols before and after treatments; 
- farm animal reproduction; 
- implementation of artificial insemination (an asset); 
- modern agriculture, agriculture techniques, animal genetics, farm animal reproduction, animal diseases and farm implements and machinery including haying equipment; 
- computer and software such as Word, Internet and Scout. 
Abilities:
- work efficiently, economically and safely; 
- determine work priorities, to organise and control large volume of work; 
- perform demanding physical work such as lifting bales of hay (10-60 lbs) and climbing into silos; 
- operate farm equipment such as a milking machine , a tractor, silo unloader and conveyor; 
- work under pressure with conflicting demands; 
- work in a team environment with a positive attitude and constructive ideas; 
- identify diseases or animals that require medical care; 
- input data in the computer. 
Personal suitability: 
Knowledge of both the English and French language would be an asset good team player and efficient worker attention to details capacity to adapt to urgent situations tact, judgement, initiative and reliability punctual facility to communicate flexible schedule valid driver's permit honest respectful of others
