Summary

The Maintenance/Facilities Manager is responsible for all Capital Project management as well as all aspects of Security, Process and Facilities Maintenance, which includes staff, parts, repair, service, environmental, wastewater and grounds functions. This position is required to effectively and efficiently manage day-to-day maintenance systems and processes; as well as, determine direction and development of the Maintenance Team, support production operations and activities, increased technical productivity, revenue growth and achievement of a high level of customer satisfaction. This position also oversees any and all capital projects and warranty claims/issues. Supports company initiatives to achieve goals and objectives set by our BAFRINO mandate and the Champion Petfoods vision “to be trusted by pet lovers worldwide.”

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and implement practices, procedures and service systems to successfully address day-to-day maintenance issues; both from a production and facilities standpoint
  • Develop and implement practices, procedures and service systems to ensure the Department is well-positioned to address improved production capacities and increased productivity
  • Oversee implementation and compliance with all aspects of preventative maintenance for the equipment and inventory
  • Analyze equipment issues, identify solutions or determine options for resolution and ensure repairs to the equipment are carried out effectively
  • Create and maintain appropriate work orders, reports and records, including information related to repair turn-around time through utilization of the Maintenance management system
  • Oversee all Capital projects and timelines for said projects. Work with contractors, vendors and outside personnel to complete projects in an efficient timeframe.
  • Oversee the kitchen on-site security, including the third-party contract company that mans the security guard gate and grounds security, if applicable
  • Participate in discussions and/or meetings with regard to determination of budget costs related to maintenance and other related issues
  • Ensure appropriate staff levels to meet the maintenance and service requirements of the Department, including recruiting, hiring, terminating, and oversee the development of an efficient and safe workplace and workforce
  • Lead by example utilizing the Company’s Core Values (TRAIL) as the basis of critical decisions. This includes following Company policies, standards and specifications
  • Responsible for the knowledge, understanding, and enforcement of all company policies and regulations. Works to ensure BAFRINO Mission, Vision, Core Values and Culture is understood and followed by all employees, starting with her/his behavior of leading by example
  • Assist with selection and training Team Members and work with Human Resources to resolve personnel problems
  • Oversees direct reports including all of the hourly Maintenance/PLC/Utilities Technicians
  • Responding positively and openly to the diversity and needs of work team through direct, open and honest communication.
  • Develop team members through coaching and education in areas such as maintenance, production, interpersonal skills, safety, quality and leadership. Documenting and reporting safety hazards or quality issues.
  • Provide a safe, harmonious, non-threatening work environment to his/her Team Members which promotes productivity and creativity through:
    • Responsibility in ensuring good training and orientation programs are being followed when new employees join the company or new products, equipment or policies are being implemented.
    • Scheduling and leading employee meetings, facilitate problem-solving using creative and innovative ideas.
    • Properly counseling and coaching team and taking disciplinary action when needed.
    • Keeping employees informed of performance and schedules. Following up on employee concerns and issues.
    • Providing employee recognition to promote morale and improve performance
  • Support and represent the Company in community sponsored events.
  • Perform additional assignments as per the Kitchen Manager’s direction.

Key Requirements:

  • BS/BA Degree in a technical field or Journeyman trade or equivalent training/experience
  • Technical leadership experience in a manufacturing environment – preferably food
  • Solid understanding of operations, business processes and project management
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Good understanding of sanitation processes and procedures, especially after maintenance
  • Effective leadership skills, with ability to mentor and/or motivate others
  • Effective attention to detail, sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization and execution skills
  • Ensures compliance with health and safety practices and procedures in the workplace
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; competency in other relevant technical software
  • Self-directed, highly motivated, detail oriented, and able to work independently while providing leadership to a team
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach, evaluate, and improve others
  • Motivated, energetic, goal-oriented, with a strong work ethic and positive team attitude
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
