Commercial Manager

Location: SW Ontario office role, with travel required



Our client, a well established Canadian ethanol producer, has entered an exciting phase in co-product development as a result of significant growth and capital investments. Their growth focus for the future celebrates their past successes and positions them for even greater success going forward.


The newly created role of Commercial Manager will report to the company CEO, and will focus on established relationships and create/develop/promote new commercial co-products to the marketplace.


Responsibilities include:


  • Creatively identifying, assessing and selling into the co-product market.
  • Combining technical and sales opportunities in developing customer prospects for co-products.
  • Assessing markets, competitors, regulatory trends and technologies to create commercial targets and development strategies.
  • Cultivating/developing relationships with local farms, feed companies, and industrial users- educating and marketing products to the satisfaction of the end user.
  • Achieving customer loyalty with production of by-products that add value to animal feed products.
  • Developing a logistics model to efficiently facilitate transport of product to customers.
  • Negotiating and selling products based upon market and sale/production opportunities.
  • Collaborating internally with all stakeholders including Finance, Logistics, Process/Production, Quality Assurance and Operations to support overall commercial strategies.



Key Requirements for the position include:


  • A degree in Agriculture, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a closely related science/engineering discipline is preferred. Business acumen is desired. Knowledge of food science and/or animal nutrition would be a definite asset.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with an ability to capitalize on introducing and delivering new products.
  • Proven success in animal nutrition, feed additives or grain purchasing activities, and a history of identifying/introducing new products to a marketplace.
  • Experience and a strong network in the agricultural/food/nutrition processing industry is preferred.
  • Proven skills in persuasion, negotiation and resolving market challenges.
  • A strong customer focus coupled with solid values of professional honesty, ethics and integrity.
  • Skills in project management, ability to execute and lead successful outcomes within budget and established timelines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with all potential stakeholders.
